Just To Get This Straight

Mon Mar 23, 2009, 10:06 PM
It seems to be a common misconception that I'm obsessive about my music. Well, let me make this clear to you:

I talk about my music, in general, a lot because it's one of the few personal things about myself that I feel like sharing with the world. In some cases, it's the one thing I feel I have in common with some people. In other cases, it paves way for a good debate. And, of course, I enjoy sharing my one life's passion with you guys. Understand?

I talk about Alice Cooper a lot because I respect that man. He's been a major inspiration to me in many ways. Meeting him is one of the few aspects of my life that seems to interest others. Understand?

I talk about Tom Keifer a lot because I greatly admire him as a musician and a person. His music connects with me, be it solo, work with Cinderella, or other projects. Understand?

When I say I'm heartbroken about such things as Hanoi Rocks splitting up, or Tom Keifer's vocal hemorrhage, or even the Buddy Holly/Big Bopper/Ritchie Valens plane crash, I mean it. Even if I joke about it, I mean it. Understand?

When I say that rap makes me feel sick, I'm not being over-dramatic. It does. Not only that, but being forced to hear it causes me to think about the fact that the music I love has been replaced in society by something I despise. It depresses me. Understand?

No. I do NOT only listen to "old" music. My library is rather diverse, whatever you think. It is simply that the 80's strike me as a more entertaining era than the one we're living in. Understand?

I'm not going to say that music is my life. It's not. It's my passion, but I could live just fine without it.

A lot of you seem to find it difficult to understand why I like the "hair metal" scene. Let me put it this way - haven't you ever wanted to be a part of something? I'm not only interested in the music. I like feeling like I'm a part of a separate culture. Okay?

Finally, I am NOT that "Alice Cooper" fan. In fact, he's not even my top musician of all time. Surprised? You shouldn't be.

I lied. One last thing. You don't have to humour me when I'm talking about my music. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, admit it. If you don't want to listen to my lectures on rock n' roll, let me know. I complain about it sometimes, I know. But I don't mean it. And, let me make it clear, I do appreciate when you GENUINELY are listening to what I have to say. However, it seems most of you are doing that far less lately. Also, when I say I've got a song you might like, why not give it a try?

--EDIT--
One more thing, then you can get back to your lives. Nothing pisses me off more than when someone assumes to really "know" me. Unless I've known you long enough to have deep, philosophical conversations on ethics and personal beliefs, you don't "know" me. And very, very few people fall under that category. So, don't be answering questions for me, don't be making assumptions about me, and, for GOD'S SAKE, don't be passing on those assumptions to others. Don't be offended if you're not one of those few people who really know me - it really is a matter of who I am, not who you are.

No, this isn't directed at anyone in particular.

I love your awesomesauce musical tastes. O:

and I like talking to you about musics, because, you ALWAYS give me a good song, coz you know my tastes. :3

and I wish I was part of the 80's, too. But since i cant be, I shall indulge in the awesomeness of really good unground bands. *yes. I am thinking of Crowned King XD*

and, im not trying to force this on you, but not all rap/hip hop music is bad, I mean like, I dont liek it either, but there is some songs like "where'd you go?" by fort minor, which isnt about 'being a mutherfuckin PIMP' (lol 50 cent pun fail), or other degrading musics about other cultures and gender and etc. And not all of it is self indulgant bull shit. xD *points at lady gaga whos wants to take a ride on somebodys disco stick*

ohohohooh! And you've gotta listen to poets of the Fall, They are some type of rock...i cant remember which one, BUT you will like them, coz they are finnish. :3

So what if you're obsessed with music? I am. I know this. It's a passion. And you know, it's all about what you feel. Whoever says you're obsessed, don't take it as an insult. Take it with a stride. Be proud for your musical intellect. :D I know, I am.

Alright, I agree with your friend there, I like rap/hip-hop. It's not all THAT bad. You have to find some of your stuff. I mean, you have to find what works for you. I've yet to find anything worth buying, but surely some to dance to. :D

Good job though. Don't let people hold you down. Never.

Now that you've left, I see sides of myself I wish I kept around rather than throw them away for you.

Hoorah!

Well, my music does indeed rock, pun INTENDED. And, since we;re on the subject of great songs to look up... Try Bulletboys "THC Groove". It's kind of odd. But amazing. xD

Now THAT'S mexan!

Well, the way I see it, is obsession is an unhealthy fixation to something, often to the point where the person feels he or she would die without it. Passion is a great love for something, but not to that point. So, I prefer the term "passionate". But, maybe you see it a different way. xD

Well, it's not like I haven't TRIED to enjoy rap. Believe me, I have. I don't like the fact that I can't stand it. But, if I do find something I like some day, I'll be sure to let you know.

Now THAT'S mexan!
:iconkaithegreat:
Well, you see, the I think the thing I DON'T like about rap is the rapping. Not the beat, not so much the content, although I don't like the content with some of it, but the rapping. I like to hear singing, chanting (Like with Black Ox Orkestar), mumbling, talking (As you hear in some of Steve Vai's songs) or no vocals at all.

Now THAT'S mexan!

I'm sorry if I ever did any of those things D:
I know I'm not that great of a listener when you go on those music rants... but I try! Just most of the time I have no idea what you're talking about DD:.
